Story
Far Cry 6 takes place on the fictional Cuban-inspired Caribbean island of Yara, described as “Far Cry’s biggest playground yet” and “a tropical paradise frozen in time”. It is ruled by “El Presidente” Antón Castillo (Giancarlo Esposito), a dictator with full control over the island who guides his son Diego (Anthony Gonzalez), who is unsure of his future, to follow in his footsteps. Esposito described his character as a leader who is “trying to empower the people to understand that they need strong leadership now,” but he is stuck in the middle of a revolution. Esposito said Diego was born into a wealthy position but couldn’t take over the leadership of the island until his father dealt with the revolutionaries, and now, at the time of the game, “he’s trying to empower his son to take up his mantle and really embrace ideas that would allow him to see that soon he will probably be the next leader in this country.”
The player takes on the role of a native Yaran named Dani Rojas, a freedom-fighting guerrilla soldier trying to return his nation to its former glory; the player can choose Dani’s gender at the beginning of the game.
Gameplay
Far Cry 6 is an action-adventure first-person shooter game. The gameplay follows on from previous Far Cry games, where players use makeshift weapons and vehicles and hire Amigos, the new “Guns for Hire” system, to overthrow the tyrannical regime. As in the previous games in the Far Cry series, Far Cry 6 is an open-world game in which the player can explore and interact with the entire world. The game world is divided into three types of vegetation: Jungle, Beaches and Yara’s capital Esperanza.
